Today we were treated to a trunk show and presentation by Chis Stender, a texile artist currently living in the Woodstock area. Her love of life and passion for various media was readily apparent in her tremendously detailed designs and wide variety of work. She has never copied anything from other people or from a book. Her designs are all personal and represent something important to her. The “ohhh’s” and “ahhhh’s” from the members became more enthusiastic as we saw the thousands and thousands of beads and stitches on progressively intricate work from art quilts, coats, vests, silk scarves, tea cosies, and framed collages. Chris’s pieces have travelled all over the world and won many awards. Thank you, Chris, for an inspiring presentation.

The October meeting summarized the major projects for this year: 25th anniversary luncheon November 9th at Riverbend Golf and Community Club, Outreach, the “Rolling Hills of Uxbridge” workshop October 20th and the quilt show in May. A new outreach project relates to making slabs (blocks - designed my Cheryl Arkison, a Canadian quilter) to be made into a quilt to support an immigrant family sponsored by Wesley-Knox United Church. The slabs will also support a sesquicentennial initiative through the Canadian Quilter’s Association. An archive report was given summarizing the activities of the guild in its infancy. Quilt labels and how to personalize them was the “Tip of the Month”. October’s “Let’s Quilt” Day will include hands-on demonstrations of different and nifty quilting techniques.
