CURRENT TVQG COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROJECTS
The Outreach Committee which consists of Marlene Dunlap, Cathy Harding and Sherry Milne have spent the summer sorting and creating quilt kits from Joy Love's extensive fabric donation. We have made approx 70 kits in total including backing and binding and batting which we paid for using the funds from our silent auction this spring. We hope you will pick these up to put together small lap quilts over the year.
We donate quilts to a variety of organizations. Our Constitution requires that the committee review our community partners about every 3 years and make recommendations for change as needed.
We have chosen to continue supporting both Anova and YOU (Youth Opportunities Unlimited). Both provide much needed second stage housing for women and children fleeing domestic violence and teens which represent 25% of our homeless population. Also YOU will be opening Joan's Place again to give shelter and housing to otherwise homeless young mums and babies. We will let you know when we need those quilts next year.
We have added Indwell to our partners. This is a broad based organization which has two buildings in London with a third opening late this fall. In conjunction with municipal, provincial and federal agencies these building offer small 1 bedroom apartments to homeless individuals and provide wraparound services like mental health support on-site to transition folks into successful living. The new building opening will have over 60 units and small quilts will be gratefully accepted.
The Indigenous daycare centre we gave to the last few years has enough quilts. Also Victoria Quilts which was an added Outreach many years ago before the London chapter was officially launched, has grown into a very successful separate organization with their own funding. Anyone who wishes to make quilts for cancer patients can do so thru VQ.
We will also bring forward Outreach needs that arise on a one time basis such as the placemats needed by the VON for Meals on Wheels recipients.
Here's to another great Outreach year!

Our guild members have been busy making quilts for our outreach projects.
These are some single bed quilts Marlene is working on for Youth Opportunities Unlimited. She has one under her needle, one ready to be assembled and one to be cut. She plans to machine quilt the second and third.

Fidget Quilts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
One of our major outreach projects continues to be making Fidget Quilts for people affected by Alzheimer's disease as well as fulfilling requests from Special Education class teachers (along with heartwarming responses from the kids who love them). In the 2019 - 2020 guild year, 140 fidget quilts were made and donated. Over 230 fidget quilts were made and donated to various schools and Long-Term Care facilities in the past. These are no longer a guild project but can be done on an individual basis. Find the instructions for making Fidget Quilts here.

Victoria's Quilts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Two members of our Guild, Ellen James and Donna Arnold, have officially established the London Chapter of Victoria's Quilts. The group meets at Wesley-Knox United Church on the third Tuesday of each month from September to June. These work days are well attended and many quilts are being made to bring comfort to those dealing with cancer. Quilters outside of the guild are welcome to join in on this outreach. To confirm the meeting dates and times, please contact Ellen or Donna.
Over 200 quilts were made available to the residents of London this past guild year. The proceeds from our 2019 Quilt Show Boutique were donated to the London Chapter of Victoria's Quilts. This will greatly help in the purchase of backing and batting.
All quilts must be 50" x 70" and have a flannel backing.
Visit Victoria's Quilts Canada here.

In the 2016-2017 Guild Year, our guild made two quilts for an immigrant family sponsored by Wesley-Knox United Church - one for the parents and one for the child.
One quilt was donated to Quilts for Fort McMurray.
On June 18, 2016 our Guild was at the Sherwood Library for Yarn Extravaganza.
Three members presented a quilt talk at Henley Place in London.
Items left from the Quilt Show Boutique were donated to Wellspring for their fall craft sale.

On June 10, 2016 Gail, Connie, Jannet and Andrea travelled to CAMP BIMINI near Stratford. The Guild had been asked to organize a quilting activity for 80 children attending a conference organized by the United Church. The four guild members were indeed kept busy helping the children create small quilted prayer patches which involved fused appliqué, machine stitching and hand embellishment. The children very much enjoyed the activity and it was a full, but exhausting day.
