CURRENT TVQG COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROJECTS
A need at a large Indian Reserve north of Moosonee became known and a large number of quilts were taken there. By May of 2021, over 88 outreach quilts were received and distributed. Anyone who still has quilts ready to donate can contact Marlene or Yvette before June 30th and they will make arrangements to pick them up. Otherwise, we are pausing both pickup and distribution of donated quilts for July and August, our traditional summer months off.
We would happily encourage our members to "quilt on" this summer as we will resume our efforts come fall to collect finished quilts. The response has been so amazing and we extend the biggest thank you to our members for sharing their skills and talents and sewing time and stashes and positive comments of support. It has been a great Pandemic project!
See the What's New page for lots of photos.

In April, Marlene finished these four quilts and got them ready to be delivered.
Our guild members have been busy making quilts for our outreach projects.
These are some single bed quilts Marlene is working on for Youth Opportunities Unlimited. She has one under her needle, one ready to be assembled and one to be cut. She plans to machine quilt the second and third.

Quilt projects for the 2020-2021 guild year:
1. Second Stage Housing - 22 units
1. Second Stage Housing - 22 units
- When women and children are forced to leave home because of domestic violence they are housed at the Abused Women's Centre which is an emergency placement. When the woman is not returning home and has no family support, they can be given Second Stage housing for a year.
- Single bed and children's quilts donated will go with the families when they arrive at Second Stage and they will take them with them when they move to something more permanent.
- A new facility for homeless youth has recently opened on Clarke Road.
- A "wrap around" response" looks at meeting the physical, emotional and mental health needs of our most vulnerable.
- We can respond to the physical need by donating quilts!
- All beds are single so we are suggesting quilts measuring about 55" x 75".
Plans for the guild outreach in the 2020 - 2021 quilting year are now updated.
The Children's Foundation is unable to accept quilts due to the pandemic restrictions. Donations will be delivered when restrictions are lifted.
Thank you for your continued support for those in need in our community.

Fidget Quilts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
One of our major outreach projects continues to be making Fidget Quilts for people affected by Alzheimer's disease as well as fulfilling requests from Special Education class teachers (along with heartwarming responses from the kids who love them). In the 2019 - 2020 guild year, 140 fidget quilts were made and donated. Over 230 fidget quilts were made and donated to various schools and Long-Term Care facilities in the past. These are no longer a guild project but can be done on an individual basis. Find the instructions for making Fidget Quilts here.

Victoria's Quilts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Two members of our Guild, Ellen James and Donna Arnold, have officially established the London Chapter of Victoria's Quilts. The group meets at Wesley-Knox United Church on the third Tuesday of each month from September to June. These work days are well attended and many quilts are being made to bring comfort to those dealing with cancer. Quilters outside of the guild are welcome to join in on this outreach. To confirm the meeting dates and times, please contact Ellen or Donna.
Over 200 quilts were made available to the residents of London this past guild year. The proceeds from our 2019 Quilt Show Boutique were donated to the London Chapter of Victoria's Quilts. This will greatly help in the purchase of backing and batting.
All quilts must be 50" x 70" and have a flannel backing.
Visit Victoria's Quilts Canada here.

My Sister's Place . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Women often arrive at My Sisters Place with nothing and they always need basic supplies. Items currently in greatest need include: boxes of bandages, $5.00 Tim's or MacDonald's gift cards, deodorant, body wash, shampoo, conditioner, tooth brushes, toothpaste, new underwear, liquid detergent and gift cards for No Frills or Food Basics. Single use and family size are both welcomed. For health and safety reasons, all items must be new, unused and unopened. Although they do not collect clothing, gently used running shoes and winter boots are needed. Also, costume jewelry can be repurposed and sold in their Micro-Enterprise Studio.
A basket is available at all meetings for any donations we may be able to make. Bring in your donations and drop them into the basket near the entrance door.
A cheque was presented to My Sisters Place from the Guild Boutique sales at the 2015 Quilt Show as well as the 2017 Quilt Show.

One quilt was donated to Quilts for Fort McMurray.
On June 18, 2016 our Guild was at the Sherwood Library for Yarn Extravaganza.
Three members presented a quilt talk at Henley Place in London.
Items left from the Quilt Show Boutique were donated to Wellspring for their fall craft sale.

On June 10, 2016 Gail, Connie, Jannet and Andrea travelled to CAMP BIMINI near Stratford. The Guild had been asked to organize a quilting activity for 80 children attending a conference organized by the United Church. The four guild members were indeed kept busy helping the children create small quilted prayer patches which involved fused appliqué, machine stitching and hand embellishment. The children very much enjoyed the activity and it was a full, but exhausting day.
