December 2020 TVQG Member Quilt Show
1. Donna Arnold
The first is a gift for a friend, born in Texas, a fantastic ER nurse who loves her cowboy boots,
and the pillows are for my sons.

2. Betty Huygen
I embellished the first two panels last year but still wanted to show them.
The third wall hanging was made a few years ago but is an old favourite that definitely gets hung up every year. The granddaughters embellished the ornaments with stickers which is glitter and glue.
I made the scrappy quilt with help from Marlene.
The joy sign is another old favourite made all with Wonder Under and no sewing.
The red wall hanging is not necessarily Christmas. It is a pattern called Star Struck from Missouri Star Quilting Company. I added the snowflake to make it look wintry.
The table runner was made because I had a lot of small pieces. I used the flip and sew method and top stitched it with decorative machine stitches instead of traditional quilting.
The lap sized quilt is called It’s Hip to be Square.
John has made more ruler holders in two sizes: 30” long with six slots or 20” long with six slots. $15.00 each with curb side pickup. Just give Betty a phone call.

3. Marie White
(aka Queen of the Rails)
Here are some of my winter quilts.
In the first one I hand appliqued all the pieces and hand quilted it.
The red quilt with the different designs was made with my friend. She machine appliqued the squares and I hand appliqued my quilt and one for her. We had such fun doing them. A great memory since she died shortly afterwards.
The blue one with quilts was a pre-printed fabric but I hand quilted it.
The Santas on the last quilt were intended to be used to make small tree ornaments. There are two of each design. I didn't want the ornaments so I decided to applique them.
The green, white and red squares are fabric from the early 70's and shows how fabric has changed over the years. I just love it and the whole quilt is very cheerful (what we need in these days of quarantine).
4. Pat Edgeworth
This is the Amish Ball (aka Montessori ball) I made for my grandson Gavin. He is 6 months old and I haven't met him yet because he lives in the USA.
5. Meribeth Dunkerley
Gifts for the neighbours and a runner made using Betty’s pattern on a Let’s Quilt Day.
The next runner means one more batch of material gone!
I made the snowmen hanging a couple of years ago and I still like them to come and visit.
6. Susan McVittie
Poinsettia Wall Hanging
7. Mary-Lou Gatward
Here are my Christmas projects. The wreath is an in-the-hoop embroidery from Kreative Kiwi designs. The quilts are Granite City and are gifts for my grandsons in their favourite colours.
8. Gail Kreek
I fell in love with the puppy panel so made it into a quilt and named it Happiness is a Warm Puppy. My son's family claimed it when they saw it. He has three daughters and a golden doodle so it was a good fit for them!
The pillow cover is made with leftovers from a winter quilt that I made earlier. The two pillowcases I made for grandkids. I made the snowman wall hanging a few years ago.
Finally, some "eye pillows" made for my DIL and her three girls. When I priced them on Amazon, they were charging $25.00 each. I looked up Martha Stewart's method for making these then used flannel scraps filled with flax seeds and lavender to make the pillows and cotton scraps to make the "pillow cases" which can be removed and washed. You either heat them or cool them down and lay them over your eyes for relaxation. Not quilted but a great use for scraps.
9. Eleaner Noon
Table runners using fabric scraps, and bed organizers with pockets for books or glasses. A piece of shelf liner fits between the mattress and box spring to hold it in place.
Slashing techniques were used to make a pillow and book covers
10. Judi Waters
I made the Christmas Tree quilted wall hanging about six years ago. It was fun to make yet challenging because you work from the middle out. I still have the pattern.
The Christmas trio, I first saw in Paris. Kalidoscope Quilts also carried the pattern and displayed it as one quilt. I was intrigued by the three horizontal pieces sitting one on top of the other. I have often made the middle sleigh as a hostess gift.
The third is a wall hanging, Home Before Dark, done in felted wool, my favourite fabric with which to work. The pattern was purchased at the fabulous quilt store in Seaforth. I have used free motion machine quilting, fabric painting, and some hand embroidery.
The winter trees quilted table runner, I found last year in the Exeter Store. I have also made this with silver trees. I’m going to make some more in January to give away when the opportunity presents itself.
11. Dale Box
The first six were made in previous years.
The next three are new.
12. Pauline Hutchison
Here is a Christmas project I made a while ago. I thought a half metre was enough for 2 socks, but after I started I eked out three more smaller ones - although the more socks I made the lesser amount of the cardinal fabric was in them. The last one just had patches of the bird fabric, but I pretty much used up the whole piece of fabric.
A lesson learned — buy more than what you need!
13. Donna Sandy
Two of the many table runners I have made, a Christmas table runner and a tree wall hanging, and matching Christmas table runner and wall hanging.
The last one, Sugar Maple, is a wall hanging.
14. Marlene Dunlap
New table runners for gifts this year.
15. Yvette Glynn
Christmas runners I made this season. I made two versions of a pattern from Marlene Dunlap who got it from Betty Huygen . . . a true Guild project! Very easy and so effective!
16. Barbara Loomis
This quilt was quilted by Karen Luo and finished off about two weeks ago.
I call it Silver Snowflakes and it is queen sized.
17. Mary Veenman
The first wallhanging was made by my sister-in-law shortly after my mother's passing. The rose centres of the blocks are from my mother's velvet jacket that she loved to wear at Christmas.
I made the floral arrangement and the altered book.
As to the red and white quilt, I took an introductory quilt making class many years ago at the Wortley Public School evening programs. I hand quilted it as I knew nothing of walking foots or free motion quilting.
I made the Christmas gift tags and cards using Aleene's Fabric Fusion glue.
This year we were unable to do an outreach sewing/quilting program at the Southdale low income housing unit of the London Community Chaplaincy. What we came up with was this: one volunteer made kits for residents to make snow flake decorations and Advent Christmas tree wall hangings. Each wall hanging was made with 24 buttons sewn on to hold small ornaments which were purchased from the dollar store and accompanied the hanging. Each wall hanging measured approximately 18" x 30". These three are some of the wall hangings that I made.
Janet Bolton wall hangings - In 2011, I took a workshop with Janet Bolton from the UK offered through the Canadian Embroiderers' Guild, London and made a number of different textile pieces based on her technique. All hand stitched. These are my Christmas tree hangings.
A work in progress: Yo-Yo Christmas Tree Wall Hanging - This 8.5" x 29" hanging was quilted and faced before gluing on the yo-yos using Aleene's Fabric Fusion glue. Beading is taking a bit longer than anticipated. The trunk and a star needs to be added. It will be ready for Christmas 2021 when we hopefully will be meeting in person. Happy New Year.
18. Libby Thorne
The Christmas cushions were made for my daughter. The red and grey log cabin quilt was made some time ago but looks lovely in winter.
