This morning we thoroughly enjoyed the Trunk Show “Add the Pizzaz Factor” featuring Jennifer Houlden, Quilt Designer and Textile Artist. Jennifer shared many of her quilts, featuring different textures, patterns and value, many embellished with couching and other mixed media. Several of her creations were developed using tissue boxes as her inspiration and included geometric, whimsical designs.
Jennifer shared that she made her first quilt at the age of 12, then, several years later, she was reintroduced to quilting while living in Yellowknife. Attending classes and learning new techniques broadened her horizons and her talents were expanded even further when she moved to the Australian Outback.
She explained that she uses the colour wheel to create stunning colour combinations and contrasts and loves geometric designs and creating a feeling of movement in her work.
Be sure to visit Jennifer’s website, www.quiltsbyjen.ca to learn more about her and her work. Enjoy some photos below from her morning at our guild.
