Congratulations to one of our own members, Ann Marie who won the “Excellence in Innovation Award” at the CQA convention in St Catharines for her "Banyan Tree" Quilt.
A great way to end the quilting year as we were treated to a presentation by Joan Hug- Valeriote of Guelph. She is an award winning professional quilt artist and a long arm quilter. Her quilting has been influenced by international travel as well as living in Europe for 5 years - Switzerland, France & Spain and also in California for 4 years.
She receives grants from the Ontario Arts council to go into elementary schools to teach quilting. Her trunk show led us along her teaching methods from quilt to quilt.
Also while in California she helped to pioneer an Art Therapy program for single unwed teenage girls.
Joan reinterprets well known traditional patterns into contemporary art pieces. She has several interesting pieces for sale from small pictures to large wall hangings.
Joan's fibre artist journey was enjoyed by all the members.
