On a very cold Wednesday, upon entering guild meeting, we were directed to choose a heart from a box of hearts in 4 colours. Each colour represented a station where we would go to participate in the meeting.
Three members of our guild set up to demonstrate tips and techniques and two representatives from the Ailsa Craig Quilt Festival were there to show us some of the quilts from France as well as the class samples.
Nancy Trowbridge shared with us different finishing techniques and hanging methods. One method of
stitching on binding was to sew it on the back of the quilt using fusible thread in the bobbin. After stitching, bring the binding to the front and press it so that the fusible thread will hold it in place while it is being top stitched. She also showed how to apply piped binding and double sided binding. Hanging quilts can be done traditionally with a sleeve, on a board, or in a frame.
The Ailsa Craig Quilt Festival representatives showed us some of the quilts of France to whet our appetite to attend the show. The class samples were also shown at the same time.

Susan Van Arkel showed us how to make collages using free form cutting. Using a heart shape, she used white glue to start attaching pieces of fabric to fill the heart. After filling in the heart, you use tulle to cover over the fabric pieces and then free hand machine quilting to hold everything down. Another great technique!
