The focus at Let's Quilt Day in February was Fidget Quilts. The Alzheimers Society had given away all they had and Marlene, our Outreach Coordinator, continues to get requests from Special Education class teachers (along with heartwarming responses from the kids who love them). Members arrived with machines, irons and cutting stations were set up and the work began. Some put together blocks from the huge stash of fabrics, textures, buttons and other gadgets, some arranged the blocks so sewers could stitch, some ironed and, by the end of the morning, at least 25 quilts had been completed. The enthusiasm was high and many took home supplies to continue making more quilts.
Other members stitched on their own projects, signed up for the Heather Bell landscape workshop, and used the library. The quilt show committee had stations set up for people to sign up to deliver advertising posters and bookmarks, to volunteer at the show, to hand in completed boutique items and at least 10 Canadian Mosaic quilts were brought in - just a note that these should be completed by the end of March so sew! sew! sew! Another great morning!
