Marilyn Speight is hand sewing her Lori Smith patterned project and plans on hand quilting, as well. Christine Van Dyk is designing the blocks for each calendar month. When hand sewing her folk art, Christine also prefers to hand quilt her work. Here are January and March. Dale Box worked on another set of her "Bowl Pillows". Linda Cox uses a website with excellent prices for Gutermann thread, zippers, needles etc: wawak.com. Sherry Milne is a new member in our club, as well as a fairly new quilter. She is making placemats to perfect her quilting skills. Irene Philip is new to our guild but has been quilting for over 22 years. We found Meribeth Dunkerley currently calling this one "her cursing quilt". Wilma Jansen is another long time quilter (25 years) who has recently joined our guild. Marlene Dunlap is working on her music themed quilt. Two more quilts came in today for the Outreach Program.

Textile artist illustrator, Tania Denyer presented her work sharing her thought process and interesting backgrounds on each item. Anita Kreek made the cute sign holders on the table with our treats and coffee. Lisa St. Marie talked about her collage quilting technique sharing these 2 beautiful examples of her work. Marlene Dunlap provided an update on Outreach: 35 quilts were delivered this month, 18 quilts came in today and 88 quilts were distributed since September. Marlene also let us know, Margaret from the Westview Sewing Group developed a label from the TVQG logo that can be ironed on to Outreach quilts donated to various charities. Thank you to Jette Collins for doing a wonderful job of taking the photos and providing background for each. Willy Leenders passed on a technique from Jim Wilton with a demonstration on how to overcome having a small shortage of material for finishing a project. Our hard working Outreach ladies Trish and Marlene. There were lots of finished quilts and more kits to be assembled. Handmade Christmas bags are for sale with these dollars going to Outreach. Four vendors were invited to set up at our meeting. These included - K & A Quilt Studio, The Quilt Kitchen Ltd., Heather Bell's Sewing Studio and Stache Fabric and Notions. Each did a short presentation at the meeting. Shopping began in the gymnasium when our meeting was over. Maribeth Dunkerley shared her quilt for her grandson. She used a pattern and material from Mt. Brydges. Karen Luo quilted it. Mary Aldworth has invited those members who are interested to participate in fabric exchange to produce SUNSHINE and SHADOWS QUILTS. Using the same concept as a cookie exchange to make work lighter, members interested in making their own Sunshine and Shadows Scrap Quilt will cut and then exchange pieces needed to produce nine patch squares. Participants will bring cut and share with others in the group 1. Three, 3” squares in three different medium and/or dark colors 2. Three, 3” in different light colors 3. Two 3 ¾ “ squares (one in a light coloured fabric and one in a dark coloured fabric.) After multiple swaps at our monthly meetings, participants can produce the squares needed to construct their own SUNSHINE and SHADOWS quilt. Interested members were invited to sign up. Details will be emailed to them. Members not interested in making their own quilts are invited to donated 3” squares if they wish Mary shared a tip suggesting we can use a larger embroidery hoop to keep the material in all 3 layers taut when quilting a larger quilt, moving it to another place as required. Linda Cox shared a tip for sorting our stash by getting different coloured baskets from the dollar store. Marlene Dunlap and Trish Gamble want to thank everyone that cut squares for Eye Spy outreach kits. Also, for taking some kits to sew at home. The day was very successful. A special thank you to Yvette Glenn for helping outreach prior to all our meetings. Yvette shops for batting and stores fabric and she is on the program committee to. Busy lady. Marlene Dunlap also announced that at the next meeting a basket will be out again for items going to My Sister's Place that supports women who are homeless. Bonnie Hall explained she put out forms for members to purchase jams and jellies to raise funds for The May Court Club of London that provides support for the nutrition programs for over 70 schools in London. At our “Let’s Quilt Day” on Nov. 23rd, we can extend the meeting, accommodating twenty sewing machines at $3.00 each for the rest of the day to 4:00 pm.
Chloe Truman has been hand quilting for 40 years using the English paper piecing technique from the 1800s. This amazing work is all hand done. Outreach accepts any size from baby to lap size. Some examples are:
