Thames Valley Quilters Guild March Meeting

3/8/2017

Finally today we had the opportunity to learn from our friends in the Whistle Stop format (originally scheduled for the cancelled February meeting). Eleaner Noon gave a wonderful presentation based on Jennie Rayment's book "Creative Tucks and Textures". More tucking and folding, as well as a myriad of ways to make flowers as embellishment were presented by Brenda Marshall and Betty Murray. Vivian Cothros, the queen of miniatures and tiny stitches, showed new uses for the log cabin block such as backgrounds for appliqué and the basis for larger designs (baskets, bows). And did you know that shirt fronts make great pillow backs? And Chloe Truman, appliqué expert, addressed the "Deep V Dilemma" and how she tackles it with a divide and conquer approach.
It is truly wonderful to spend the morning with like-minded people and learn so many new skills as well.
The morning ended with our enjoyable Show and Share shown in the photos below.  At the very bottom you will see two photos that are samples of pieces done some time ago by some of our early members.
