GENERAL MEETING

Our first meeting of the year is always a meet and greet.  We had ladies from the Ronald McDonald House and from the VON who thanked us for the quilts we donate to their cause.
Sharon O'Neil represents the Southwestern Ronald McDonald House here in London, which was started in 1985.
Ronald McDonald House provides comfort for families going through the trauma of having a sick child.  They provide food, lodging and a place where they can talk with other families going through the same thing.  It is a critical necessity for these families.  Living far from home and not have to worry about where they will stay while their child is in hospital takes some of the stress off of daily living.
Each family gets a quilt to take home and a pillowcase.  They are very appreciative of the comfort these items provide.
Our second presenter was Patricia Beaver with the VON also thanked us for the wheelchair quilts that are given to patients on their way to treatments.
VON also has meal programs where our placemats are given to individual who are part of those programs, such as the Frozen Meal program, Food Box and where families that are signed up get 2 boxes once a month, one with perishables (fruits and vegetables) and another with dry  and canned goods. Meals on Wheels is another program where our placemats are truly appreciated.
As both these ladies explained the need is great for all the support they can get.  Even a simple placemat provides much joy to someone who has never received anything.

A special thanks to the Outreach Committee for this informative and enlightening program.
