ONE BLOCK AT A TIME PROJECT:
At our Executive meeting in the fall, Susan McVittie brought a quilt which she had made with left over strips of primary colour children’s prints mixed with white. The blocks were easy to make and assemble. We all agreed it was really a neat looking quilt. The idea was born to make this a winter Guild project.
OUR GOALS:
QUILTS WE HOPE TO MAKE!
Take a look at the attached pattern and photos of some finished blocks and Susan’s finished quilt.
Each quilt will be made up of 20 12" blocks.
Each 12" block will be made up of 4 squares with pieces sewn the same way and then flipped to make up a finished block.
1 Finished block requires the following fabrics:
PRINTS*** - 8 - 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" strips
4 - 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" strips
***It is best if you can use at least five or more different prints in your block. Blocks can be made from single colour palettes such as all red, green, blue, etc; all pastel colours such as pale blue, yellow, pink in one block; all primary colours in one block. The more pieces of material of a particular colour, the better it looks.
WHITES***- 4 - 1 1/2" x 6 1/2"
8 - 1 1/2" x 3 1/2"
***You can use different white prints in the background so they all blend together. We are aiming for white whites NOT cream to keep the blocks similar to put together in a finished quilt.
When checking your stash, if you don't have enough of 5 different colours for your block or enough white, let us know. We will have a list of what we are mixing. Also take the opportunity to call other Guild members to share fabrics or request colours directly. We want lots of participation and the chance to be in touch with each other!
These are not scrappy quilts in the truest sense but a very organized scrappy quilt based on one or two colour palettes.
SOME RECOMMENDED COLOUR EXAMPLES:
The attached photos give you an idea of finished blocks but the possibilities are endless.
Maybe you have many different blues or browns or greens to use. Give them a go! Many other members might have these colours to contribute too. We will compile a list of planned blocks to coordinate 20 blocks into 1 quilt.
Who will run ONE BLOCK AT A TIME project?
The Outreach committee and the Program committee will organize it but with everyone’s assistance. If you want to participate please call or email Yvette Glynn with an idea of what kind of colour blocks you will make and how many. She will compile a central list of who is doing what. Also if you have extra fabrics you could donate to another colour palette, let her know. When we have a central list of requests, Marlene Dunlap will make sure that whomever is using that colour will get it.
When?
We will be starting now, and go till May at which point we will pool all our blocks together and see what we come up with. If you have enough material or energy to make a whole quilt using one colour go for it. If you are just making a few blocks of different colours, PLEASE DO NOT SEW THEM TOGETHER. Hand them in as single blocks and they will be mixed with other blocks to make a quilt.
We hope this will be a fun project for everyone and that this info is clear!
If not please call/email Marlene Dunlap or Yvette Glynn.

OUR GOALS:
- We want to create quilts to give to our outreach projects: 2nd stage housing at ANOVA formerly the Women’s Community House when women and children leave to set up a new home with very little of their own; Y.O.U. to give to teens living in community housing and Merrymount for children under 12.
- We also want to give our talented quilters something to do during this very quiet time of our life. You might not wish to do a full quilt but we hope you would not mind doing a few blocks using material from your own stash.
